NAPIERVILLE, Ill. – RPI Football’s bid to reach the Amos Alonzo Stags Bowl ended with a shock in the NCAA Division III Tournament quarterfinals.
The top-order’s north middle showed why it is the top seed in the tournament, with a 55-6 win over the Engineers on Saturday.
The Engineers (11-2) had no answer in trying to stop the Cardinals’ offense. North Central (12-0) complied 516 yards of the total offense. Running back, Ethan Greenfield gained 143 yards on 20 carries and scored two touchdowns. Quarterback Laika Lehanon was 13-for-17 for 197 yards and three touchdown passes.
North Central had a 28-6 halftime lead. He sealed the victory by scoring 20 more points in the third quarter.
The RPI’s only score came on a 3-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter from quarterback George Marinopoulos to Peter Lombardi.
