Russell Dahl obituary (1952 – 2021) Madison.com

Dahl, Russell Robert

DEERFIELD – Russell Dahl, 69, passed away peacefully at home on October 29, 2021, after a grueling two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Russ was born on 13 March 1952 to Raymond of Deerfield and Delores (Latsch) Dahl. He grew up on his family’s farm, beginning his life-long love of farming at a very young age. For his third birthday he received a Red International pedal tractor, which he drove several miles, traveling in whatever area his father was working. His first two years of primary school were spent at a small country school away from home. When it closed he attended Marshall Elementary School and met his future wife, Kate Friedel, for the first time.

After graduating high school in the fall of 1970, Russ purchased the farm, which he continued to operate until his passing, which was only a mile from where he grew up. They served in the Wisconsin Army National Guard for six years while farming together.

On July 21, 1973, Russ and Kate were married and moved into the farmhouse where they still lived. In the early years of their marriage, they added four children to their family: Jessica, Erin, Kelly and Tim.

Russ lived his life doing what he was destined to do; Being a responsible caretaker for the country he loved. His quiet passion for his loving family, his beautiful Red Angus cattle herd, and his loyal Yellow Labrador were the greatest joys of his life. He traveled west several times on hunting trips with his dear friends and will cherish those memories forever. Other adventures with family members were also experiences he loved; Rafting through the Grand Canyon, and going on a bike tour through Canyonlands National Park outside Moab, Utah, on the White Rim Trail.

Two weeks before his passing, Russ was fulfilling his dream of one last harvest in his new alliance.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Kate; and their four children, Jessica Muller, Erin (Brad) Graf, Kelly (Dan) Howard, and Tim (Lindsay) Dahl. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Ava Muller, Alayna and Tylen Graf, Kendall and Bailey Howard, and Quinn and Beckett Dahl. Other survivors include his sister, Shirley Berry; Sister-in-law, Penny Dahl and Sue Friedel, Sister-in-law and Brother-in-law, Mary and Denise Riley, and Gail and Greg Friedel; As well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

His mother, Delores Dahl, had died before Russ’s death; his father, Raymond Dahl; his brother, Rollin Dahl; and a newborn granddaughter, Brian Graf.

Visitation for Russia will take place on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 from 4 pm to 8 pm, and on Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 9:30 am to 10:30 pm at the Nitardi Funeral Home in Cambridge, Wis. Funeral services will be held at NITARDY Funeral Home at 10:30 am. Burial will be followed soon after at Crowghville Cemetery, Crowghville, Wis.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Sharon Weber and Dr. Natalia Uboha of the UW Carbone Cancer Center. His kind care and concern was a blessing to all of us. Thanks also to Dr. Christina Hook of Wildwood Clinic and Aggress Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the UW Carbon Cancer Center, Marshall FFA, or Harvest of Hope.
