Russell Westbrook Explains Why He’s Taking ‘Weird Walk’

When Russell Westbrook dribbled the ball toward the half court line at the Staples Center on Friday night, the Lakers guard began to shuffle his feet, doing “walking at the seams” when he danced on the playground against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The song “G’d up” by Tha Eastsidaz was playing, and the music caught his attention, making Westbrook dance even as he played.

It was his way of bringing the Lakers back a little bit of toughness, getting them out of their 26-point crash at Oklahoma City last Tuesday and letting their teammates go under their looks.

When he was a LA guy from Leuzinger High in Lawndale, who attended UCLA and now plays for his hometown Lakers, this song was a catharsis for Westbrook and allowed him to express himself.

“All I heard was music, and I thought, ‘Oh, that’s my joint right here.’ This is my … ”And then my legs begin to move. This is how it works with me, ”Westbrook said after Monday’s workout. “So I love to dance and I love to do it. So it happened in the middle of the game, but, you know, it turned out to be fun. But that also applies to what I mentioned after that game, just about our prey and my energy. This is who I am, and in order for us to be who we need to be, I need to be who I am, to be free and to do what seems normal to me. “

Westbrook thinks he may have done this before when he played for Oklahoma City. However, some people replied, “What the hell was he doing?”

“And that’s fine with me,” Westbrook said. “But it gives good energy to my team and my teammates and it makes us happy. I always remember that throughout the season and throughout the game, you always have to make sure that you are having fun – winning, losing or drawing. Because if it’s not, it kind of becomes – for me personally – I become so tense. If I’m just too focused and not having any pleasure, I lose sight of what I should be doing. So this is also a combination of all this: just have fun, smile and enjoy the game. “

After this game, LeBron James joked in an Instagram post about Westbrook, “There’s really something wrong with him,” adding smiling emojis.

His dance moves gave Westbrook’s teammates a small pinnacle inside the man.

“They just said, ‘This is me – this is me.’ You know, I like to joke, enjoy the game and enjoy it, ”he said. “But at the same time, I’m going to compete as hard as I can, and that’s all I am. And I think some of them didn’t notice it right away, and after the game they all thought, “Oh, I didn’t realize that you were doing this throughout the entire game.” I thought, “Yeah, we need this today.” “
