A senior official in Ukraine’s military intelligence services said Russia has shifted the focus of its missile attacks against Ukraine in an attempt to disrupt Ukraine’s preparations for a counteroffensive.
After months of attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Russian forces are now increasingly targeting military facilities and supplies, said Vadim Skibitsky, deputy head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate.
“Before they failed to bring down our energy system and now they have completely different priorities: our plans for active (military) action during the spring-summer campaign and disrupting preparations.”
Skibitsky said the Russian military is targeting decision-making centres, supply routes and places where large quantities of ammunition, equipment, fuel or troops are concentrated.
“The enemy has begun to pay special attention to the areas where our air defense teams are located,” he said.
He also said that Russian aircraft are now targeting areas on or near the front line more often than before.
Russia, whose airstrikes also frequently hit residential areas of Ukraine, did not immediately comment on Skibitsky’s remarks.
Although Ukraine has said it is planning a counteroffensive to try to recapture its territory captured by Russian forces, Kiev said recent progress around the eastern city of Bakhmut does not mean that The attack has already begun.
