Ryan Reynolds surprised some people in mid-October when he announced he was taking “a little sabbatical” for filming. He now explains what this means – and how long it will last.
“I’m just trying to make a little more room for my family and spend time with them,” the 45-year-old father of three told The Hollywood Reporter at an event in New York on Monday. “You know, you really won’t get that time back.”
He added: “I probably won’t be doing films or at least making films until the end of the summer.”
The Deadpool star and entrepreneur announced his hiatus on an Instagram post on October 16 that marked the end of his work on Spirited, a musical version of Charles Dickens’ classic short story A Christmas Carol.
“I’m not sure I would have been willing to say yes to such a difficult film even three years ago,” he wrote. “Singing, dancing and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell has made many dreams come true. And this is my second movie with the great @ octaviaspencer …

Reynolds, born in Canada, is married to actor Blake Lively and has three daughters between the ages of 2 and 6, and will continue in the coming months at Maximum Effort Marketing, which describes itself as a company that “produces films, series, content, commercials, etc. and cocktails for the personal entertainment of Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds.
