Safdie Architects designed a pharmaceutical and research center in Brazil

It is part of a private hospital located on the other side of the road and with which it is connected by foot.

Safi Architects built up Albert Einstein Education and Research Center (AERC), located in the south of So Paulo, Brazil, with a medical school and research center. The jewel in the crown of the building is its lobby which has a glass roof designed to evoke the “feeling of being under a tree canopy”.

The latter forms a dome that the roof rests on 3 thousand 800 square meters (m2, And one thousand. is made of 854 Glass Panes Laid on steel grid.

The panels are micro-perforated to filter out outside noise and feature a pattern of transparent dots that vary in concentration depending on average sun exposure levels.

Safdie Architects said: “Viewed from below, the overlapping layers of dots are akin to seeing sunlight pouring through the overlapping leaves of a tree.”

On the façade, it is made of concrete and full-height glass, and is partially covered by wooden shutters. These allow to ‘keep the sun out’ from the outer shell of the structure.

AEERC Bhawanof 12 million m2The private hospital is part of the Sociedade Beneficente Israelita Brasileira Albert Einstein, located across the street and connected to the new building by a walkway.

The construction of the Albert Einstein Education and Research Center began in 2017 and is expected to be inaugurated in August this year.
