Sales of green cars, in the growth of Chihuahua

Ciudad Juárez.- The acquisition of electric and hybrid cars in the state of Chihuahua increased by 2020, almost tripling the purchase in the last three years, according to figures released by the Mexican Association of AC Industries (AMIA).

There are also “green” hybrid vehicles that monopolize the market for those that only run on gasoline.

On the official website AMIA outlined that by the time of 2020 in the state of Chihuahua, 372 hybrid and electric vehicles have been sold; while, in 2021, the figure increases to 945 units sold, to finally end with 92 thousand sold by the end of 2022, despite the fact that the Chihuahua outside the top 10 sales of this type of car has shown sustained growth in recent years.

According to AMIA statistics, buyers of these green cars who opted to acquire hybrids represented 91 percent of purchases in the state; plug-in hybrids made up 4.8 percent of sales and electric cars made up 4.1 percent of purchases.

To clarify the operation of each of these cars, it is important to say that hybrid vehicles work with two engines, one is gasoline and the other is electric. While electric cars can run 100 percent without fuel, while plug-in hybrids are equipped with high-capacity batteries that also recover the energy used in braking and can be connected to a back-to-back system to recharge the batteries.

According to the state of the car cluster, there are automakers who already have in their plans (as a climate objective) that by 2030 all cars must be electric and/or other green technologies.

Karen Thomas, manager of the car cluster in the state of Chihuahua, declared that this information was part of a Webinar dedicated to expert consultants of the supply chain of the auto- ristic in North America with an impact in Mexico, in which the president of the cluster participated. in the automotive industry, Jorge Charles.

“The truth is, if certain parts of Europe will work, these developed countries, but here for this part of Latin America (and Mexico) this cannot be 100 percent, however, the Manager of the Cluster is confident that he will do it.” this wave of change is happening,” Thomas said.

Each brand will make its plans to reach 2030, close to this goal, Thomas explained.

It’s not just buying electric cars

A representative of the car cluster in Chihuahua said that in these projects, which mainly have climate goals, the issue overcomes the purchase of electric cars, because a total change is required.

“It is not only about this change in the preference of the user, but it involves a whole change in the ecosystem in which this investment will be made in cars, we are also talking about the infrastructure, the electric station, for example, you can buy. An electric vehicle, but where can you go for more than two hours?” Thomas said.

For Thomas, he answers, in addition to the maintenance of the vehicle that any car requires, the panorama in this matter is wider than just saying “to produce more electric cars”.

In the state of Chihuahua, 25 stations have been launched, also known as electrolines, of which about eight operate in Juárez, most of which are located in the car (two in hotels) and at least two in public spaces.
