Samrat Prithviraj: YRF changes the title of Akshay Kumar’s ‘Prithviraj’ a week before its release

The title of Akshay Kumar’s upcoming release Prithviraj has been changed to Samrat Prithviraj. Yash Raj Films changed the title less than a week before the film’s release. The change in name was prompted after a PIL was filed by Shri Rajput Karni Sena.

In an official letter to Mahipal Singh Makrana, President, Shri Rajput Karni Sena, YRF said, “Dear Sir, We, Yash Raj Films Pvt Ltd, have been one of the leading production houses and distribution companies since our inception in the 1970s. We are and continue to grow into one of the largest film studios in India. We have produced some of the most iconic films in the history of Indian cinema and we have a goodwill in the entertainment industry for over 50 years. We serve all audiences. Committed to continually creating and producing content for pleasure.”

“We sincerely appreciate your effort to alert us of your complaint with respect to the present title of the film, and assure you that we have not intended to hurt the sentiments of any person(s) or insult the late King.” And the warrior, Prithviraj Chauhan. In fact, we want to celebrate his bravery, achievements and contribution to the history of our country through this film.”

Sharing the decision to change the name of the film, the production house said, “As per the many rounds of discussions between us, and to resolve the grievance raised peacefully and amicably, we will change the title of the film to “Samrat Prithviraj”. We very much appreciate the mutual agreement we have that you have no further objections with respect to our film and all other points raised earlier by you are no longer a matter of dispute between us. The portrayal of the great warrior in the film We thank Shri Rajput Karni Sena and its members for understanding our good intentions regarding the release of the film and for your full support locally and globally for the assurances given in your letter ”

The Akshay Kumar-starrer is based on events from the life of the fearless emperor Prithviraj Chauhan. The film also stars Manushi Chhillar, Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood. Samrat Prithviraj will release on June 3.
