San Diego healthcare workers protest after denial of vaccine exemption

More than 100 medical workers and community members gathered in front of Ready Children’s Hospital in San Diego on October 1 to protest the hospital’s refusal to exempt its staff from vaccines.

California requires that medical staff be fully vaccinated by September 30 or apply for a vaccination exemption based on medical, religious or personal beliefs. However, Ready Children’s Hospital said that since more than 70 percent of the hospital’s patients are in the age group who cannot receive the vaccination (12 years and below), medical staff who are in direct contact with the patients should Must be vaccinated and they cannot apply for one. Discount.

Alicia Fregoso, a 15-year-old registered nurse who works in the intensive care unit at Ready Children’s Hospital, told The Epoch Times, “They denied everyone the religious and medical exemptions they submitted for not getting the vaccine. “

“we had three” [to] Four more days to get it or else we’ll be put on leave of absence, so here I am now. I don’t have a vaccine, and I can’t come to work right now.”

For several months, unvaccinated medical staff at Ready Children’s Hospital had to undergo COVID-19 testing biweekly. On September 27, the hospital abruptly refused to accept medical and religious exemptions, Fregoso said.

“The reason I’m ready is because most of our patient population can’t get the vaccine yet, so it’s to protect them. However, as a nurse, I’ve had COVID before. I have natural immunity and I have There are antibodies. I get tested regularly, and I know my immune system is still working,” she said.

Fregoso said her vaccinated peers in the hospital do not need to undergo testing, “and they are still allowed to work, even if positive, [if] They don’t have symptoms.”

Another registered nurse at Rady Children’s Hospital, 15, who requested anonymity, said, “Everyone knows the proof of the fact that even if you are unvaccinated or vaccinated, you can still be a victim of any How can COVID disease spread? Why am I not safe to take care of the children I care for, and to take care of families every day, and they [vaccinated] Huh?”

“I have followed all the tests twice a week, as set up by the state and the Ready Children Hospital. I had put on all the necessary PPE, and yet they completely refused us [our] Rights.”

Some of the protesters involved in the rally worked in other hospitals and lived in nearby communities.

Those who had come to participate in the protest could not apply for exemption. . She also said that many nurses infected with COVID-19 gained natural immunity.

“The vaccine is not reducing the spread and they are not testing them. Only those who are being tested are illiterate,” George told The Epoch Times.

“There’s no science behind it. If you talk to an older person in the hospital, they’ll tell you it has nothing to do with science.

Denise Bond, who worked as a registered nurse at another Sharp Memorial Hospital for 34 years, said she was sacked from her job because she did not comply with the COVID-19 nasal swab test. He spoke out against the mask, testing and vaccine mandate during the rally.

“It’s tyranny. We live in the United States, where we have, or should be, the right to choose,” Bond told The Epoch Times.

Among the protesters, some were waving American flags and several holding handwritten signs that read: “Mandate? Let’s Choose Freedom,” “We Stand Together for Freedom,” “No Vaccine Passport!” etc.

There are also signs that read: “Last Year’s Heroes, This Year’s Zero,” referring to the medical workers who worked at the forefront of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic last year.
