San Francisco mayor responds to criticism after violating his own COVID mask mandate

San Francisco Mayor London Breed, who has apparently been diagnosed with COVID-19 by his own administration. was seen breaking masking rules Last week at a nightclub, he responded to criticism over his action, which some considered hypocritical.

Breed, a Democrat, told local media outlets that attention should not be given to him for breaking the mask rules, but rather members of the media should focus on members of the band Tony! Tony! Tone! Performing for the first time in decades.

“It was sad that it’s even a story,” she told CBS 5, “we don’t need the funny cops to come and micromanage us and tell us what we should or shouldn’t do.”

According to San Francisco’s health order, persons attending live indoor performances must remain masked unless they are drinking or eating alcohol. Byrd said she was actively drinking at the venue, suggesting that it was okay for her not to wear a mask.

The mayor then explained that his “drink was sitting on the table. I got up and started dancing because I was feeling the spirit and I wasn’t thinking about the mask.”

“The fact that there was something that was really monumental, and that is, Tony! Tony! Tone!, the original members, brothers, Rafael Sadiq and Dwayne Wiggins, who haven’t performed in public, because I believe it. That’s for at least 20 years, they really are some of the most incredible artists in the history of this country, and the Bay Area in particular,” Breed said.

“The fact that is being lost here is very unfortunate.”

However, pictures of Breed going without a mask can prove to be politically damaging. Gavin Newsom was seen dining without a mask at an expensive French restaurant late last year, in violation of statewide masking rules, triggering a recall election in California.

Meanwhile, over the weekend, celebrities, actors and musicians attending the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards were seen without masks, while event workers were seen wearing them. A similar situation unfolded during the Met Gala in New York last week, when celebrities and several prominent elected officials, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D.N.Y.), were photographed without masks while The workers had masks.

Actor Seth Rogen, speaking on stage during the Emmys, noted the lack of wearing a mask.

“I start by saying that there are too many of us in this small room! What are we doing?” said the actor. “They said it was out! It! They lied to us.”

Emmys host Cedric the Entertainer later said that attendees had to be vaccinated in order to participate.

COVID-19 is a disease caused by the CCP (Communist Party of China) virus.

Byrd’s office did not immediately respond to a request from The Epoch Times for additional comment.
