SAN JOSE – Officials are seeking the public’s help to identify the driver of a luxury sedan involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision over the weekend in San Jose.
The San Jose Police Department said in a news release that the car, which was described as a black 2015 Infiniti Q50 with tinted windows and dark gray aftermarket wheels, was first introduced on July 17 at 2:30 p.m. Was seen on the block of Alum Rock Avenue. When an officer in a marked patrol vehicle tried to stop the traffic, the driver fled.
A few minutes later, an Infiniti ran a red light on Mackie Road and North 33rd Street and rammed a black 2007 Honda sedan, police said. The Honda driver was ejected and died on the spot.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office has identified the victim as Jose Esparza Melchor, 24, of San Jose. His death marked the city’s 30th traffic death of the year.
Police said the Infiniti driver fled the scene and was last seen on his way to Anne Darling Elementary School.
