Sans Aaron Rodgers, Packers head to Jordan Love debut

Love was not helped by the Chiefs’ relentless blitzing, as he was under pressure throughout the game. While Lafleur said it was his fault for not devising a game plan that had better responses to pressure from Kansas City, the offensive line certainly shared responsibility, as did Love, who was 37 years old. I don’t process what I see as quickly as the old future Pro Football Hall of Famer does.

“If you’re given plays where they’re developing for a long time and you can’t defend, it’s hard to throw off your back,” LaFleur said. “I thought there were some games where he got out of some stuff … (but) I’m disappointed that we didn’t tackle the ball fast enough and say things that might look a little too fast for him. And then , that’s on me.”

Love said: “We knew they love to bring all-out (blitz), especially for me as a young quarterback. We definitely thought they would bring a lot, trying to eat me , especially in third place. … I guess if I was able to hit one of those plays against an all-out, we probably wouldn’t see it as much. But it’s really just a matter of hitting a play. And we didn’t do well enough, I didn’t do well enough to let people go up and play on one of them. We had some go balls, I didn’t give them a chance.

Then, there were special teams units, which saw Mason Crosby miss a 40-yard field goal (at which it appeared that the ball from new long snapper Steven Wirtel came back with the laces in the wrong place and Crosby and holder Corey Bjorkez, left discussing the ball. Placement after a miss), a 37-yard block in the field goal unit, and a turnover on a punt when returner Amari Rodgers did not field the ball and it was passed to Malik Taylor. Bounced, leading to a chief field goal.
