The owner of a Scarborough restaurant is searching for a customer who weathered a snow storm Monday in hopes of getting food, only to be brought down to his knees because it was closed.
Nice Eatery posted a safety video to Instagram earlier this week that shows a man walking in knee-deep snow in front of a restaurant. When he goes near the door he sees that it was closed that day.
The man falls to his knees in the snow, remains in that position for a few seconds. Then he gets up and leaves with his head down.
“He was (probably) thinking, ‘Oh my god, I can’t believe it. They’re off. What am I going to do next? What’s my meal? I have to go home and cook now? It’s not Happening.’,” restaurant owner Valerie Lai told CP24 on Friday evening.
Lai said he couldn’t believe it when he first saw the video.
“What was on his mind? Like, why would he go out in such weather to come to our store, and what kind of food was he supposed to eat and what was on that day’s menu? But yeah, I’d love to know, Said Lai, who has been looking for the man for four days now.
Nice Eatery is located in the area of Finch Avenue East and Markham Road and serves Caribbean cuisine.
Lai said that ever since the video was posted on social media, many people have come to the restaurant to show support.
“I have to thank her. She’s my angel in disguise,” said Lai.
“I feel so impressed that you know someone would do something like this. So, if you’re seeing this, please come and see me.”
She further added, “There are not many people who get this chance to go viral and I just want to thank all the people who come through our doors every day for their patience, to support us all these years. And I mean that inside my heart.”
About 55 centimeters of snow fell in Toronto on Monday.
