Morelia, Mich., January 6, 2023. – For the fourth year in a row, the Tecnológico Nacional de México, Instituto Tecnológico de Morelia campus will receive the largest number of steel intern scholarships awarded by the Association for Iron and Steel Technology (AIST). , for its abbreviation in English of the American Federation); This support is targeted to universities in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
A press release indicates that, once again, the Tecnológico de Morelia was the institution benefiting from this support with the largest number of students among the three countries; For this 2023, there will be six scholarship recipients with a residency in a steel company in any of the three countries and $7,000 in financial support to continue their professional preparation.
In total 40 scholarships are awarded by the North American Steelworkers Association to 16 universities in three countries, of which Tecnologico de Morelia was the only institution that would be able to make these benefits effective for the greatest number of students. In Mexico, the other institution that will receive this type of support is the Tecnológico de Saltillo with 3 scholarships.
In this month of November, the students of Pony – who are part of the AIST-ITM chapter – were informed that they were the creditors of the scholarship and they are: Materials Engineering Jesús Campuzano Chamonica, Brian Oliver Hernández Ortiz, Jorge Tapia Juárez, Monserrat Torres Sierra and Valeria Elide Villagomez López and Mechatronics Engineering, Gabriel Magaña Rendón.
The scholarship includes financial aid of $7,000 and a paid residency in the steel industry during the summer of 2023, as well as support to attend the American Federation in Columbus, Ohio for the month of October, where the formal award will take place. assumption.

It is worth mentioning that in the four years this benefit has been provided, students and now graduates were selected to join and work in important companies in the steel industry in our country.
In addition, in May 2022, researcher Dr. Monserrat Sofía López Cornejo, who is also an advisor to the AIST-ITM Student Chapter, achieved the Presidential Citation Distinction awarded by AIST in the American Federation, the only researcher recognized in our country. with this highest award.
Lastly, it is important to highlight that in 2022 the AIST-ITM Student Chapter was honored for the third time with the recognition of Chapter of Excellence, the only one in Latin America to have received this distinction.
