Another part of his legacy is creating a place for skaters to make a living after their competitive career when he hosted the Stars on Ice Tour in the 1980s.

What is Hamilton, a cancer survivor, now doing with his foundation ( could overshadow all his other achievements. His fifth annual Scott Hamilton & Friends event at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on November 21 will focus on the fight against glioblastoma, a particularly deadly form of cancer.

The show, which will feature Olympic skaters including champions Katya Gordeeva and Ilya Kulik, as well as music stars such as Lady A, Grace Potter, Maren Morris, For King & Country and Cece Winans, will also pay tribute to Michael. The show focuses on double-sided glioblastoma and is inspired by both Busby and Scott Williams, an Arkansian who reached out to Hamilton’s organization while he was undergoing treatment.

“Scott heard about me, took my G8 book and decided he wanted to help us raise money for glioblastoma brain cancer research,” Hamilton says. “He wanted to cycle down 444 miles of Natchez Trace. We thought, “What the hell?” Scott felt that he was called for this.

Hamilton put Williams in touch with another cyclist working for the organization, and the two completed the ride on time, despite hitting obstacles, including a tornado.

“Scott has brought us something powerful and unique,” Hamilton says, noting that they have received donations from 27 states and three countries. “He drew attention to a form of cancer that really has no hope, but he gave us hope. He made it clear to us that with this indefatigable hope you can achieve wonderful results. “

“We believe in God’s planned opportunities, and we really want to do our best and our best for Busby and his wife Jesse, his family and his music. And try to change the outcome for people with this cancer. “

Potter, a three-time Grammy nominee, has ice skating experience and even told Hamilton that she would like to be on the ice during rehearsals. He joked that maybe she could sing the song while skating.

Performances will range from songs from each artist’s catalog to a variety of Busby music.

“It was a great honor for me to participate in this year’s CARES charity event with Scott Hamilton,” says Jesse Busby. “He and his team are warriors in cancer research, and I truly believe this year’s event could be an important marker in the fight against glioblastoma, the deadliest form of brain cancer. The life, eventual death and legacy of my beloved husband have opened the door to some major advances in the research and treatment of glioblastoma. “

Hamilton promised “a couple of surprises” at the event, which is not televised, although he would welcome any media interested in broadcasting the show.

“The only time this show will be held and the only people who will see it,” he says, “will be at the Bridgestone Arena.”
