Search continues for missing Texas Guardsman, ID issued

EAGLE PASS, Texas ( Associated Press) — The name of a member of the Texas National Guard who goes missing after she ventured into the river at the US-Mexico border to help two migrants who appeared to be drowning, was released by officials on Sunday. .

The Texas Military Department identified the missing guard member as Bishop E. Evans, a 22-year-old specialist from Arlington.

The Texas Military Department said Evans was trying to rescue two migrants when they went missing.

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber said Evans took off his jacket and turned off his radio before going into the water at around 8:30 a.m. Friday.

“He jumped in the river,” said Schmerber. “They never saw him come out.

US Customs and Border Patrol took both migrants into custody. According to the military department, officials believe the migrants were involved in drug trafficking.
