SEAT Ateca 1.0 TSI 110 CV tested: is the engine of this SUV enough?

The Seat Ateca will always have the honor of being the brand’s first SUV. It hit the market in 2016 and, around 2020, it received a loop update. In its presentation we drove the most powerful diesel version and now it’s time to get behind the wheel and demand one, Seats Ateca 1.0 TSI of 110 CV.

The tested unit corresponds to the Stylo Go finish, one of the most interesting (in fact, the mechanics are not offered with the FR sports finish or most of the country’s X-Perience. It already has elements such as 17-inch full alloy wheels. headlights LED high beam assistant, dual power climate control, parking assistant with rear camera, warning system in involuntary lane change, Front Assist with emergency braking, digital radio, fatigue detector.

If you choose the Style Go M package, you gain elements such as a 9.2-inch screen with navigation, eight speakers and Seat Connect, a black exterior package… for just 280 coins more. And the Style Go L adds an extra layer of security.

Starting price? At the moment, 31,110 coins with this combination of ends and devices, a figure that does not include discounts or promotions of any kind. You can find the Seat Ateca in our new car section, published by the brand’s official dealers. Remember that you can use our car expense tools to make it more affordable for you month to month. Take the time to analyze and see what it has to offer.

Outside

Seat recently arrived in the SUV segment. Many said it was too much, but he knew he had a place in this type of content, even leading a trade with Arona. Undoubtedly, the plan was one of fortifications, without ambition and sought to please everyone.

The biggest innovations in the renovation were in the front, just a new grille that took the road that started Tarraco. The shapes of the front lights have also been slightly changed, which has led to a very simple finish. The power takers also have a more robust appearance.

Its dimensions are not varied, with a length of 4,381 mm, of which 2,638 correspond to the base. Other dimensions are 1,841 mm wide and 1,615 mm high. The silhouette hasn’t changed, just a new set of wheels are available, 16-inch in the simpler finish and 17-inch in the proven Go Style finish.

Already in the back, the information has put new shapes and adopted a logo in two-dimensional models. The most visible innovation was the name of the model, which now occupies the middle part of the trunk of the cover and has a different shape, as if it had been written by hand.

Interior

Inside, the changes in the Ateca were equally subtle, mainly to improve connectivity and improve some materials. The turns between the pieces continue to be very good.

The central screen stands out among the 9.2 inches of the multimedia system tested in the unit, although the standard 8.1. It is very complete, it has gesture control and mobile connectivity with Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. Two USB-C type wireless charging stations help prevent disconnection from the mobile.

After the renovation the steering wheel was changed and I like that it is now included in the cruise control, forgetting the satellite control on the left. Behind the wheel we see a digital board with different ways to display information, very abundant. Optionally, others have simpler versions of analog clocks.

And there are no variations of space or liveliness. Good space in the front and back, enough headroom and headroom for two adults, even if you deploy the sunroof as the test unit had. In width, the three are not very good (few compact SUVs offer good dimensions here). In addition, the main tunnel is quite heavy, and the center of the seat is no less soft than the sides. We have, yes, air conditioning vents and two USB-C bases.

A trunk

As usual with vehicle upgrades, no changes have been made to the cargo capacity. The trunk retained a capacity of 510-liters … in front-wheel drive versions. The figure drops to 485 liters if you want all-wheel drive (only available with the most powerful gasoline.

It has very regular shapes that make it usable, despite the fact that it is not one of the largest in the segment, partly because the external size is quite contained. At least you have to keep a step from the edge to the floor. Under it, by the way, we have a temporary spare wheel.

There is no shortage of specific things, such as a 12 V socket or even a very useful 220 socket, as well as satellites or hooks, to fix the load. The free space left at the rear door is quite wide and that makes it easy to load large items. For this task it also helps to fold the rear seats, leaving a space of 1,604 liters of capacity.

Motor

The mechanical range continues without electrification of any kind. The same is the case with the Ateca and the Skoda Karoq that recently passed through the test section: its compact equivalents (the Leon and Octavia seats with which they share a platform) have it.

There are diesel versions, with 2.0 TDI from 115 and 150 CV and gasoline, 1.0 TSI from 110 CV. E 1.5 EcoTSI 150 CV and, at the top, 2.0 TSI 190 CV with all-wheel drive. All, with title c.

Access to gasoline is one of the most requested. The engine mounts three in-line supercharged cylinders, which delivers its maximum power of 81 kW (110 CV) at 5.00 rpm, with a maximum torque of 200 Nm stable between 2.00 and 3,000 rpm. On paper, the engine is sufficient for quiet driving, with 0 to 100 m/h in 11.3 seconds, with a top speed of 180 km/h and a combined consumption of 6.0 l/100 km with the Stylus Go trim that we have in our hands.

Behavior

With this engine under the hood, the Seat Ateca weighs in at 1,341 kg. It is contained in quite a figure, and therefore, with calm and peaceful rhythms, the engine of the car moves well. It responds smoothly and feels good with the six-speed manual gearbox.

We mentioned that the transmission is so quick that you need to use it often when you need to give the car a break. We are talking about an approach model, without huge power or torque and when you go on the road or in an area with slopes, you need to pull it to respond to the engine.

And of course, even with this mechanic, the Ateca is the best in the segment in terms of chassis dynamism, with a legendary corner set. The suspension has a good setting and behavior coupled with compactness, combined with accurate steering. In these environments it is stable.

If you want to move the car lively, in addition to the gearbox to pull at high revs, it will be difficult to get an approved finish. You’ll move figures close to them on secondary roads at a leisurely pace, but it’s a road, especially on long slopes, with figures higher than 7 l/100 km on the computer’s logbook not surprising. And in the city more of the same: having not the least degree of electricity increases the expenditure on urban circulation.

Opinion cars.com

Motoring journalists can often be criticized for testing very powerful or out-of-the-box versions. It is appreciated that Sedem gave access to one of the models of the SUV that resumed good sales figures in 2023. This version is also in great demand and dynamically exceeds the expectations of what happens with the most basic version of the compact SUV.

Obviously, its engine is not as round for a car of its size as the 150 hp 1.5 TSI can be. You don’t travel so loosely that it forces you to play with the gearbox, but at normal speeds the car moves well and the Ateca can get by without too many problems.

We don’t have this engine with the automatic transmission that is curiously offered on the Arona (see test). You only have to play with the bar occasionally, which is certainly a nice touch.

There were no extreme aesthetic changes and we can’t say it’s bad. Limits and connectivity have improved, aspects where they should have an impact and with this pace sales should have, despite having mechanics with the label ECO, and more important for some drivers, especially when entering with a car in cities.
