Fortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT), the global cybersecurity leader driving the network and security convergence, today released its Cybersecurity Gap Report 2023, revealing the challenges to cybersecurity skills shortages currently affecting organizations around the world. The main conclusions of the global report are:
- Cybersecurity skills shortages have contributed to critical IT positions not being filled, increasing organizational risks such as cybersecurity breaches.
- Cybersecurity continues to be a priority for the boards of directors of organizations and the demand for more personnel in the field of information security.
- Technology-focused certifications are highly valued by employers, as they serve as a validation of skill boundaries.
- Organizations are recognizing the benefit of recruiting and retaining a diverse talent pool to help address e-skills shortages, but doing so is challenging.

A valuable aspect of the growing cybersecurity skills gap
There are an estimated 3.40 million professionals to cover the global shortage of cybersecurity employees. The Cybersecurity Skills Gap Report 2023 found that the number of organizations with five or more security gaps will increase by 53% from 2021 to 2022. Develop talent with training
The report also suggests that employers recognize that training and certification can benefit their organizations in addressing the skills gap, as well as the ability to attract talent. Here are some highlights from the relationship between the relationship and the routine;
- Entrepreneurs look for certifications: In addition to experience, employers view certifications and training as a valid validation of each skill. 90% of business managers prefer to hire professionals with technology-focused certifications, up from 81% the previous year. Incorporate new groups to solve the shortage of talent
Although the report shows that organizations are looking for ways to tap into new talent gaps for cybersecurity positions, and 8 out of 10 organizations have diversity goals within their hiring practices, about 40% of organizations have admitted to having difficulty finding qualified candidates who are women. veterans or minors.
- The report shows only a 1% year-over-year increase in the number of female employees (88% in 2021 and 89% in 2022) and minorities (67% in 2021 and 68% in 2022).
- Hiring veterans is down compared to last year. The number of agencies reporting hiring military veterans dropped from 53% in 2021 to 47% in 2022.
