The Senator of the 19th District and current candidate for the National Senate, Roland Gutiérrez, visited South Texas this Saturday, September 9, as part of his tour of the different regions of the state.
Gutiérrez attended an event with various organizations that promote school safety in Texas.
The central theme of the McAllen forum was firearm violence prevention, an issue that remains a priority on the state’s policy agenda.
“It’s simply a matter of raising the age of access to these types of weapons, closing down what is ‘Gun Show Look Pro,’ which buys guns at conventions, and finally the protective orders. If there is a person who makes threats, that person should do the same.” “If he doesn’t have guns, he should contact a judge to take away the guns for a while and find out what’s happening at home,” Gutierrez said.
Gutiérrez explained that controlling the sale of firearms in Texas must be one of the main concerns, not only to prevent incidents like those in recent years, but also to ensure greater security in schools and other institutions.
“We will continue to help people and ensure our children are safe in their schools. “When we go to church, to the mall, to the stores, we need to find ways to live a little safer in the country,” he added Gutierrez.
For her part, Martha Flórez-Rangel, mother of a victim of a recent murder here in the region, defended the regulation of this measure.
“There can be a solution if all of us, the community, come together and support each other to see what happens with the tragedy or the thoughts of the teenagers,” commented Flórez-Rangel.
It is recalled that days after the shooting in Uvalde, the current candidate for the national Senate, Roland Gutiérrez, emphasized his efforts to stand on the side of the affected families and to find out what events actually took place at that school.
