WASHINGTON, DC – Today, after the House and Senate passed a Continuing Resolution to avert a government shutdown, which includes the $16 billion in disaster relief that Senator Rick Scott is fighting for, the senator released the following statement .
Senator Rick Scott said, “Today, the American people have won and the Washington Establishment has lost because for the first time in many years, Republicans in Washington are starting to act like Republicans. Today’s vote is a huge victory for in Florida and America because we continue to fund the government while securing the $16 billion in disaster relief that I requested since Hurricane Idalia hit Florida. When President Biden came to Florida to visit the devastation caused by the hurricane , I pressed him for this funding. And, despite the best efforts of some politicians in Washington, we stopped their attempts to hold disaster victims hostage in exchange for funding for Ukraine.
“Now that we’ve taken this critical step to put Americans first in foreign wars, we really need to start considering our budget and pass it in a way that doesn’t include multiple omnibus bills. In the normal way in Washington, we know the Establishment wants to jam through a big year-end omnibus spending bill before the holidays full of earmarks and special projects for the politician – but that will only make the pain Joe Biden’s inflationary policies cause worse. I will continue to fight with other conservatives in Congress to make sure that doesn’t happen – because there is no way we can continue to it’s the road we’re on that leads every American to see higher gas costs, exorbitant medical bills and unaffordable grocery store prices.”
