Los Angeles County Public Health, California, deer confirmed by the first death of West Nile virus for the 2023 season in the province. The patient, a resident of the San Fernando Valley area, was hospitalized and died of neuroinvasive disease associated with West Nile virus.
A total of 19 cases have been documented in Los Angeles County so far this year (not including Long Beach and Pasadena, as local health departments report known cases in town). Human infections tend to continue throughout the summer and fall, with the highest number of cases usually emerging in the month of September.
