Seven killed in two shootings in Northern California

HALF MOON BAY, Calif. ( Associated Press) — Seven people were killed Monday in two related shootings at a mushroom farm and a trucking company in a coastal community south of San Francisco. Authorities said a suspect is in custody.

Dave Paine, chairman of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, said four people were killed in the field and three others at the trucking company on the outskirts of Half Moon Bay, a city about 30 miles (30 km) south of San Francisco. went.

Paine said police arrested 67-year-old Zhao Chunli in connection with the shooting.

It was not immediately clear how the locations were related, though Paine said the suspect worked for one of the businesses. He described the captives as “disgruntled employees”.

“There is no threat to the community at this time,” the San Mateo County Police Department tweeted just before 5 p.m.

Television pictures from the area showed officers taking a man into custody without incident.

Aerial photos also showed agents collecting evidence from a farm with dozens of greenhouses.

The shooting comes days after 11 people were killed at a dance studio in Southern California on Saturday night.

“We are horrified by this day’s tragedy in Half Moon Bay,” Pine said in a statement. “We haven’t even had time to mourn the loss of life in the horrific incident in Monterey Park. Gun violence must end.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom tweeted that he was “with victims of the mass shooting in the hospital when I was pulled aside to report a second shooting. This time in Half Moon Bay. Tragedy after tragedy.”
