Shakira caused a stir in Barranquilla this Saturday, September 16, when she arrived in the city to officially hand over the Nuevo Bosque-Pies Descalzos educational center. The artist arrived at the facility accompanied by Mayor Jaime Pumarejo Heins.
The artist publicly called on the state to become more committed to children in this part of the national territory, stressing that the aim is to give children the right to education and prevent them from continuing to die of malnutrition.
“I am happy to share this with the children who can enjoy this school. There are still more than a million uneducated children in our country, but today there is great encouragement and motivation and inspiration to continue to engage with the youth,” he began.
He then emphasized: “I hope that La Guajira will be taken care of, that more children will not die of malnutrition, that more schools will be built, that the state will commit to doing its part and that the private sector will remain more committed.”
This is not the first time that Shakira sings the tabla in front of the National Government, as last May she shared a heartfelt publication on her social networks asking that more efforts be made so that the children of La Guajira can live in humane conditions.
This is the mega school
This mega project includes a comprehensive intervention and the construction of the completely new headquarters. The scope of work included the construction of 22 regular classrooms, four preschool classrooms, two laboratories, an art classroom, a technology classroom, a multi-purpose classroom, a kitchen, a dining room, an administrative area, three bays and several bathroom batteries, in an area of 6,073 square meters.
