Team Mundial did it again to retain the Laver Cup title.
And Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe put the finishing touches on Team Mundial’s convincing win on Sunday. The Americans held their own and defeated Hubert Hurkacz and Andrey Rublev 7-6(4), 7-6(5) and captured the Laver Cup 13-2, winning the tournament for the second year in a row.
The Vancouver crowd enjoyed the exciting moments, where both teams showed quick reflexes and a deft touch at the net throughout the hour and 37 minutes of the match.

Shelton and Tiafoe relied on their firepower and dominated on serve, winning 40 of 48 of their first serve points to take the title. A key moment was when Shelton and Tiafoe won three consecutive points from 4/5 in the second set tie-break.
“It’s been crazy for me and I’m excited to be in a team environment,” Shelton said. “I enjoyed playing for Johnny Mac. Team Mundial brought a lot of energy this week. It’s easy for me to play when I’m motivated and excited, and my teammates did a great job cheering me on all week. I hope I did a good job of motivating them.” said Shelton, one of the figures of the week.
Tiafoe continued: “Being a part of it last year and winning it last year was very emotional, for the first time. John (McEnroe() was very excited. Now, to do it again in doubles with Ben so much fun .”
Led by captain John McEnroe, the World Team has now won the last two editions of the Laver Cup after falling in the first four.
“I feel amazing beating them like that!” McEnroe said. “They beat us many times. It was a battle until the end when we won last year and we came with a good team spirit, a good combination of youth and experience. I feel it from the beginning and we took a step forward.
