Significance of Dave Lombardo and Pink Floyd’s Early Records

Dave Lombardo, the legendary drummer, recently appeared on Amoeba’s “What’s in My Bag” show, where personalities show off records they’ve picked out during a visit to the famous record store.

Albums by Quincy Jones, Bad Brains and The Germs, which Lombardo revealed he learned from Jeff Hanneman, featured early work by Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett’s 1970 solo album. Lombardo commented: “I’ve recently bought Pink Floyd’s first two albums and, of course, Syd Barrett’s solo album. You know Syd Barrett was one of the band’s main influences at the time, so I’ve got a lot of his singles.” Had to take the album ‘The Madcap Laughs’ as well.”

“Then I found out it was produced by David Gilmour and Roger Waters,” the drummer continued. “It would be an interesting trip to hear, for sure,” he said excitedly at the mention of the word “trip”. “I had to get this record because I’m really digging the early days of Pink Floyd. There’s something special about old recordings that I find captivating, and I’d love to see the band evolve into ‘The Wall’ Is.”

Furthermore, Lombardo commented on Pink Floyd: “Their skill, the production, the compositions; You can see how everything is developing. And I find the songs on Pink Floyd’s first two records very inspiring because the band wasn’t afraid to experiment. They didn’t care about things like ‘Oh, we need a hit that’s three and a half or three minutes long’; He didn’t care about it at all, and it’s all very special to me.”
