Significant increase in UK solar installations by 2023

According to MCS data, the UK sees a significant increase in rooftop solar installations in 2023, surpassing total installations for the entire year in 2022. These installations include solar PV systems with a capacity of 50 kW or more low, which is usually found in residential buildings, schools, and small businesses.

As of December, a total of 138,336 solar photovoltaic installations were registered, slightly exceeding the 137,926 installations registered last year. It should be noted that a typical home installation has a capacity of around 4 kW.

The current rate of installations suggests that the UK is on track to surpass the all-time installation record of 203,120, set during the height of the Feed-in Tariff regime in 2011. This program of the government was stopped in 2019, as it has successfully achieved its goal of reducing the cost of photovoltaic energy.

The rapid growth of solar installations is evident, as more than half of the capacity installed in the last four and a half years has been added in the last 13 months. This increase in installations can be attributed to the cost effectiveness of solar energy compared to grid power, which allows home and business owners to achieve energy independence and protection against rising electricity costs. . .

Ian Rippin, CEO of MCS, highlighted the benefits of small solar installations, stating that they provide home and business owners with energy independence and protection against rising electricity costs. However, it also recognizes the need for greater efforts to accelerate the transition to low carbon technology for UK consumers.

Chris Hewett, CEO of Solar Energy UK, highlighted the reasons behind the rise in rooftop solar deployment. He explained that solar energy is cheaper than grid energy, with a payback period of several years in most cases. Along with growing concerns about climate change and record temperatures around the world, many people are choosing to decarbonize their homes and businesses by investing in solar installations.

In summary, the UK sees a significant increase in rooftop solar installations by 2023, surpassing installations from the previous year. This growth can be attributed to the profitability of solar energy, energy independence, and growing concern about climate change. Despite the progress, there is still work to be done to facilitate the transition to low carbon technology for UK consumers.
