Tita García, mayor and candidate for PSOE in Talavera de la Reina, has highlighted the important progress made for cancer patients in Talavera and in the entire health sector. In particular, he mentioned the new linear accelerator that is going to be installed in the Cancer Center (located opposite the hospital) and for which the Talavera City Council has already granted the license for the works to adapt the necessary spaces . An investment of around 700,000 euros will be made, to which should be added the new generation health resource that will replace the previous one.
In this sense, the candidate has mentioned this project prepared in the axis of his election program ‘Talavera, the city to come’. This was stated during his visit to GenesisCare Cancer Center, a global provider of radiation oncology for cancer care. As he added to the unit, improvements will begin next summer and the new technology will be operational in the first quarter of 2024.
Tita García thanked the result of public-private cooperation with such investments in the participation of all health cards in the region, arguing that “here we protect health so that whoever needs this coverage Need it, in the worst of times, he gets support from the administration”. Thus, he reiterated his gratitude to GenesisCare for its “partnership and commitment” to the city of Talavera, so that cancer patients can receive the best care and the best treatment.
In this sense, the candidate has highlighted the agility of the City Council to guarantee that work can start as soon as possible and that the installation of the new linear accelerator is a reality. “It is my commitment as a candidate, because improving the quality of life of patients is essential,” she continued.
While these works are carried out, the service provided with the current linear accelerator will be maintained until this updated system becomes available. Furthermore, Tita García has emphasized that this advanced treatment for cancer patients “is being carried out in Talavera, avoiding travel for these people.” “Beyond powers, the purpose is to seek the good and provide solutions to neighbors when they are at their worst.”
Likewise, he mentioned the new linear accelerators of the latest generation, the Electa Versa HD, which, in addition to offering higher doses of treatment, allow for shorter and more precise radiotherapy treatments; Due to which there are fewer sessions. In this way, treatment times are shortened while radiation doses are delivered with millimeter precision and excellent quality, preserving at-risk organs and tissues. With all this, toxicity and improved side effects are reduced.
In this way, more types of treatment will be given for more types of pathology and with more precision and effectiveness. In fact, they can be addressed from primary tumors to more advanced stages, which would mean providing better quality of life to patients, increasing overall survival and expanding the portfolio of healthcare services provided.
“The more health coverage, the better the benefits and the quality”, so that we in the city are also competitive in terms of cancer treatment offered here, he stressed. On this point, he has advocated “continuing to work and defend so that health services are the fundamental cornerstone.”
Yatra was responsible for the management of the Nuestra Señora del Prado hospital as well as for GenesisCare; Among them, Sigfredo Romero, coordinator of the Cancer Center. The latter highlights the desire to “continue to treat patients with excellent human quality” through new oncological, clinical and scientific resources.
The implementation of the new linear accelerator is “going to positively impact the quality of service that we are going to offer”, as it represents “a step forward towards the future”, he believed.
