Rishabh Pant was given the responsibility of leading Team India after KL Rahul got injured on the eve of the opening T20I of the five-match series against South Africa. India did not start well as India lost the first two matches of the series. But under Pant’s leadership, the hosts made a resounding comeback to level the series 2-2 with the deciding T20I to be played later today. While Pant has received praise from several quarters for his captaincy, his batting performance has been put under question after a low score.
Players like Wasim Jaffer and Dale Steyn have even said that considering the current form, Pant may drop himself from the playing XI in T20 Internationals.
Now, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has expressed concern over the fitness of the Indian wicketkeeper, calling him “a bit overweight and heavy”.
“I want to talk about Rishabh Pant’s keeping. One thing I’ve noticed is that when a fast bowler is bowling, he doesn’t crouch down. He stays standing. Maybe because he’s a bit overweight and He’s heavy, he can’t come that fast, and he doesn’t have that much time. He just leans back and down, he doesn’t sit properly. I think it shows a little concern over his fitness. Does Rishabh Pant Perfectly fit?” Kaneria said in a video posted on his YouTube channel.
The former Pakistan cricketer said, “Rishabh Pant needs to improve his batting style. KS Bharat is available and I don’t see anything wrong in bringing in Wriddhiman Saha. Just give Rishabh Pant a break.”
