Smart was able to introduce Smart #1 at the beginning of March as a pioneer in a new era in Berlin. We were there in the beginning and got a behind the scenes look. Along with the Smart #1 BRABUS, Stromer’s performance version follows in the summer of the same year. Significantly sportier not only visually, but also in terms of performance. But it shouldn’t stick to one model.
As part of the world premiere in Berlin, it was already checked whether other models would follow. At the time, the response was still cautious. Between the lines, though, it was pretty clear that the Smart #1 would not flash in the pan. As part of the presentation of the Smart #1 BRABUS, the manufacturer in China has announced two more models for the next two years. Accordingly, the next vehicle version is to follow in 2023.
It will be clear that Smart #2 will be on the road soon. Under the name, a new variant of the two-seater variant could also be imagined from a marketing point of view. Thus you can bring a more modern version of the Smart EQ fortwo model on the road. On a new basis, of course. However, production of the previous Smart Fortwo models in the form of the cabriolet and coupe should continue until at least 2023. So this version is unlikely to hit the roads until 2024. Until then we may see another version of Smart #1.
It is conceivable that both electric models, like the #1, will be based on Geely’s SEA platform (Sustainable Experience Architecture). It is extremely flexible and ideal for smart to compact stromers. The flexibility can be seen in the battery selection option alone. With regards to Smart #1, we were given to understand that further battery options were conceivable. However, these are likely to be larger rather than smaller – as the 66 kWh version was found to be the best entry option. We are curious.
