In addition to knowing those key dates regarding taxes with the agency, many taxpayers are looking for a way to know when they will receive their state and federal tax refunds.

Here’s how you can find out where your tax refund is if you haven’t received it or want to know if you’ve already received it.

You Can Use IRS Tools Where is my refund?or in english Where is my refund?Which now allows you to track tax refunds from two years back.

To use the tool, you’ll need your Social Security or ITIN number, marital status, and the exact amount of your expected refund.

If you file a joint return, you must enter the identification number that appears first on the return.

Almost all states will also require you to provide the exact amount of the refund. Some states will require the taxpayer to round the figure to the nearest amount, but some states, such as Vermont, will require the exact amount.

Other states may also require date of birth, year of filing, marital status and even zip code.

how is the process

use the tool Where is my refund? or mobile application IRS2Go To verify your refund online. These systems are updated once every 24 hours and are the fastest and easiest way to track your refund.

You Can Call the IRS 800-829-8954 o al 1-800-829-1040 To check the status of your refund. The wait to speak with a representative may be long. But you can avoid waiting by using the automated phone system. When calling, follow the instructions in the message.

The tracker shows progress in three phases:

  1. declaration received
  2. accepted return
  3. Refund sent

Where is my refund? It will show you the refund status for the tax year you have selected. If you need information about any other withdrawals, check your online account.

How long does it take for refunds to arrive?

Where is my refund? Provides a custom date after the return is processed and the refund is approved. While most tax refunds are issued within 21 days, some can take longer if the return requires further review.

Here are some reasons why tax refunds take longer:

  • Returns may contain errors or be incomplete.
  • Returns may be affected by identity theft or fraud.
  • Many banks do not process payments on weekends or holidays.
  • The IRS will contact taxpayers by mail if more information is needed to process a tax return.
