WASHINGTON ( Associated Press) – President Joe Biden’s legal team has uncovered more confidentially sealed documents, a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
The announcement comes days after a lawyer for the president reported that Biden’s legal team had found a “small amount” of confidential documents in one of his old offices in Washington.
The White House confirmed a few days ago that the Justice Department was reviewing “a small number of documents with secrecy seals” found in the office. The White House said Biden’s lawyers discovered the files at the Penn Biden Center offices and immediately contacted the National Archives. Biden retained the office until shortly before launching his 2019 Democratic presidential campaign, before stepping down as vice president in 2017.
The person who spoke to the Associated Press on Wednesday said the president’s legal team had received additional classified material at another location. The person was not authorized to discuss details of the issue publicly, so he spoke on condition of anonymity. The source did not say when or where the material was obtained or provide specific details about the level of confidentiality of the records.
The discovery of additional confidential documents by Biden’s lawyers came hours after White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre dodged questions about Biden’s handling of confidential information and how the White House handled the discovery. He assured that the White House was committed to handling the matter “the right way”, noting the fact that the President’s personal attorneys immediately contacted the National Archives.
