Fury defended his title by defeating Chisora by TKO
Tyson Fury retains his heavyweight title after defeating Derek Chisora by technical knockout in this trilogy.
A heavyweight title fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua is being negotiated for September in the UK, sources have told ESPN.
Talks began this week between Fury’s promoter George Warren and Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn, sources said, re-visiting the discussion of the incident that fell short of the long-awaited showdown between the two stars.
Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) KO’d Derek Chisora in a fight trilogy in December and then entered talks with Oleksandr Usyk for a scheduled heavyweight championship fight on December 29 at Wembley Stadium. of London
Those negotiations went out in the media and collapsed in March, leaving Erinnys, 34, looking for a new opponent. “Gypsy King” then returned to the UK on July 15th.
Fury said the fight was offered to Andy Ruiz Jr., who wants $20 million, according to the WBC champion. Another potential opponent, Zhilei Zhang, became unavailable when Joe Joyce withdrew the rematch clause following his upset loss to Zhang, 40, via sixth-round TKO in February.
On Thursday, Usyk’s supporter Alexander Krassyuk claimed the rights to Usyk vs. Daniel Sylvius Krassyuk said he will compete on August 12 in Wratislavia, Poland. That leaves Erinnys and Joshua available to fight each other if a deal can be reached this time.
For weeks, he has been quoted as saying that the two had an ambitious fight on the schedule of Saudi Arabia in December, which was Fury vs. Usik and Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder That heavyweight doubleheader is still being explored, sources said.
But Erinnys wants to wrap up the first fight in 2023 and prepare his team for the fight with Joshua this summer, sources said.
An August 12 rematch between Joshua and Dillian Whyte in the UK is also being explored, sources said. Joshua (25-2, 22 KOs) stopped Whyte in round 7 when they met in 2015.
That fight took place before Joshua captured three heavyweight titles. The two-time heavyweight champion was defeated by Usyk for the second time in August. Joshua bounced back with a 33 unanimous decision victory over Jeremaine Franklin in April, AJ’s first fight with trainer Derrick James.
