SpaceX fired employees who reprimanded Elon Musk in open letter: report

SpaceX has reportedly fired employees who this week issued an open letter criticizing CEO Elon Musk and referring to his recent behavior as a “distraction and embarrassment” to the company.

SpaceX president and Musk’s aide Gwynne Shotwell said in a memo that the firm had “terminated several employees involved” in drafting the letter – noting that the workers had made “unsolicited requests” to add their signatures. Along with “troubled many people”.

“The letter, solicitation and normal process left employees feeling uncomfortable, intimidated and threatened, and/or angry because the letter pressured them to sign that did not reflect their views,” Shotwell said in the memo. ,

Shotwell described the open letter campaign within the company as “unacceptable” and said the workers were fired after their actions were investigated. The number of employees fired was not immediately clear.

The discord at SpaceX comes after weeks of controversial talks between Musk and Twitter’s board regarding their pending $44 billion acquisition of the company. Musk’s buyout bid has rankled Twitter employees and liberal pundits who fear his emphasis on free speech will result in more harmful content.

Musk’s Twitter activity has drawn more scrutiny during the talks – his public declaration of support for the Republican Party and a joke with billionaire rival Bill Gates are among the events that have attracted notice.
