O Spotify announced in November last year the purchase of the audiobook platform Findaway and since then both companies were expected to join their platforms. Now, the music streaming giant has announced its newest service that will allow its users to buy audiobooks à la carte.
Audiobooks no Spotify
The music platform revealed that these books will be normally found on the app in the United States, and that each of the works will have to be purchased individually. Initially this service will feature 300,000 titles from leading and independent publishers two United States.
O Spotify points out that the purchase of these audiobooks will happen on a separate webpage in your app. After acquiring the work, the user will return to the platform to listen online or download to listen offline. As pointed out by The Hollywood Reporterone of the downsides is that subscribers to the Spotify Premium will not have any kind of discount on this service, something that is offered by the main competitors of the platform, such as Audible and Amazon.

The portal points out that Spotify’s global head of audiobooks, Nir Zicherman, stated that the company is analyzing the market and chose not to give these discounts after talking to its partners in this sector. He also stated that choosing the à la carte model is the best way for the company to learn how consumers interact when purchasing individual titles.
Zicherman also stated that his company will charge a price according to the market and that royalties will vary by publisher. As they are paid products, the app will not display ads during the reproduction of these books.
O Spotify will also have a curation algorithm, analyzing user tastes to indicate the best audiobooks. This new service will be available first in the United States and, if the company has good feedback, it should expand the novelty to other markets in the future.
