St. Bonaventure University Pavilion dedicated to memory of alumnus Ryan Marchiori, ’08, ’09

On Thursday more than 140 people from the Marchiori family and St. Bonaventure University The community honored his memory with the dedication of the Marchiori Pavilion.

Located on the north side of the campus in front of the prestigious devereaux hall, the pavilion is available to the community for use almost throughout the year. It has two natural gas fire pits, a large gas grill and ample seating. Marchiori was a devoted bony and devoted member of his community. This space will allow their memory to be shared forever.

“You know how we honor Ideal Bonaventure students in their senior year? Well, Ryan was an alumnus of Ideal Bonaventure from the time he graduated,” said Dr. Jim MahroAssociate Professor of Finance who served as MCE for dedication.

Marchiori died after a car accident in the fall of 2019. His family established a memorial fund that allowed for the construction of the pavilion and fire pit, with the remaining money to be donated to the Warming House. Senior class gifts from the classes of 2020 and 2021 were donated specifically to this project with contributions from friends and alumni.

Marchiori loved the outdoors. The pavilion provides a beautiful gathering place for students, alumni and the surrounding community to enjoy.

Ryan’s father, Gary, and brother, Luke, classes ’11, ’12 thanked the more than 200 donors who contributed to the project — “the generosity has been overwhelming,” Luke said — and Jared Smithdirector of operations at facilities St. Bonaventure, for his vision on the project. The initial idea to honor Ryan was a memorial bench, but it was not enough. “When I thought big, Jared thought big,” said Gary.

Father Dan Riley, ofm formally dedicated the pavilion and assisted Luke in blessing the structure. Gary talked about Bonaventure’s significant impact on Ryan. “This space shaped him as a person and developed him into a leader,” Gary said. “Bonaventure has set a moral direction for my son. I will never forget that.”
