( Associated Press) — Carter Graham scored two home runs, Drew Bowser hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the seventh inning and No. 2 overall seeded Stanford scored in an 8-4 win over Texas State on Sunday. night, forcing Monday’s showdown between schools for the Stanford regional title.
Stanford (44-15) patted his back against the wall after losing 5-2 to Texas State (47-13) on Saturday night. The Cardinals scored another shot at the Bobcats as they beat UC Santa Barbara 8-4 in Sunday’s first elimination game. The winner earns a spot in the Super Regional.
Texas State took a quick lead on Jose Gonzalez’s single homer in the top of the first, but Graham responded with a two-run shot at the bottom of the innings for Stanford.
Justin Thompson’s RBI double tied the score 2-2 in the third, but Graham fired a three-run shot in the fourth to put Stanford back on top.
Dalton Sheffield’s single homer in fifth and Peyton Lewis’ RBI single in sixth got the Bobcats within one run.
Ty Uber (4-1) took five innings to lead Stanford to victory. He conceded three runs in three hits and four walks. Ryan Bruno allowed a walk after scoring only four runs in the last two innings.
Texas State starter Tony Robbie (4–1) was tagged in with his first loss after conceding eight hits and five runs on two walks in 4 1/3 innings.
