Starbucks raises wages for U.S. workers as unions strengthen

Starbucks said Wednesday that it is raising salaries for its U.S. employees and making other changes to improve working conditions in its stores.

The Seattle-based coffee giant said that by next summer, all of its U.S. workers will be earning $ 15 to $ 23 an hour. At the end of January, employees with two or more years of service will receive an increase of 5%, and employees with more than five years of service – up to 10%. Workers can also receive a $ 200 hiring bonus to attract new employees.

Michelle Eisen, an 11-year-old Starbucks veteran who works at a Buffalo store and supports union efforts, said Starbucks __, which turned 50 this year, __ had decades to implement seniority pay but chose to do so just now.

Starbucks said Wednesday it is revising and updating its training guide and extending training time for workers. He said he also plans to test an application that will allow employees to subscribe to available shifts that match their schedule.
