“Starnacht aus der Wachau 2022” – criticism, ratings & repetition!

On Saturday, September 17th, MDR and ORF 2 showed the “Starnacht aus der Wachau 2022”. After the premiere at Wörthersee in July, it was the second assignment for the fashion author duo Barbara Schöneberger and Hans Sigl. This open air celebrated its 10th anniversary and on this occasion the guest list was really something to be proud of. Thousands of fans celebrated stars like Andreas Gabalier, Roland Kaiser or DJ Ötzi in front of an atmospheric backdrop in Rossatzbach. The “Star Night from the Wachau 2022” was also well received by the viewers in front of the TV. However, there was some criticism of moderator Barbara Schöneberger on social media, who splits music fans with her style.

“Starnacht aus der Wachau” – great performances by the stars and nasty criticism of Barbara Schöneberger

Performers such as Andreas Gabalier, Roland Kaiser, Melissa Naschenweng and The BossHoss created a unique atmosphere at the “Starnacht aus der Wachau 2022” on Saturday evening (you can find all guests here). This series of events always succeeds in attracting big stars from a wide variety of music genres to one stage. Even if the German Schlager is the dominant genre. After a two-year break and for the 10th anniversary, the open air inspired the audience in front of the stage and in front of the television. The comments on social media are almost entirely positive. However, Barbara Schöneberger had to take harsh criticism. For the second time after the “Starnacht am Wörthersee”, the native of Munich moderated together with Hans Sigl. With her humorous and shrill nature, however, she does not go down well with everyone. This is reminiscent of Andrea Kiewel at the ZDF television garden. Either you love her loud and shrill manner, or you hate her.

Many viewers were very critical of Barbara Schöneberger’s appearance at the “Starnacht aus der Wachau”. Here are a few examples:

It would be a great show if the annoying Schöneberger wasn’t there.

This woman can only be annoying. The show could have been so beautiful

We didn’t even watch this show because of the Schönebergers. This woman just doesn’t fit. It’s just shrill, artificial and just plain awful. I think the Germans are happy that this person is up to mischief on Austrian television. A terrible woman! Pity!

In any case, we found the musical variety at the “Starnacht aus der Wachau” to be remarkable. We would also like to wish for this for the festivals with Florian Silbereisen.

“Starnacht aus der Wachau 2022” on MDR and ORF 2 – the ratings

Musical top acts and a fantastic backdrop – this combination actually deserves a place in the main German program. In fact, the Star Nights were co-produced by ZDF for years. In this country, the MDR is now there and can look forward to good ratings. At least 297,000 people watched the last edition from Wörthersee. At ORF 2 it was almost half a million.

This time, too, Starnacht was able to enjoy good ratings. At least 280,000 Schlager fans tuned in to MDR. That gave this third program a market share of 9.6 percent. The MDR was still behind “SWR Schlager – The Show with Beatrice Egli”. 546,000 people watched ORF 2. This brought a market share of 22 percent for the “Starnacht from Wachau 2022” in Austria.

Anyone who missed the “Starnacht aus der Wachau” on Saturday, September 17th can see the full-length rerun in the ORF media library. The open air season with the star nights in Austria is over for the time being. But of course it will continue in 2023. The following dates have already been fixed:

  • 07/08 July “Star Night at Wörthersee”
