Sterling puts City 3 points behind Liverpool in title bid

MANCHESTER, England ( Associated Press) – Manchester City began celebrations to mark a decade of their maiden Premier League title while trying to prevent a sixth success from being too tense or dramatic, beginning and ending with Raheem Sterling.

A tight title race is now more firmly in control of City after Liverpool were three points clear on Sunday after a 5-0 win over Newcastle.

A draw with only Tottenham on Saturday may prove costly, with City now with three games to spare and an even better goal difference of plus-4 over their opponent.

A pair of goals from Sterling, Aymeric Laporte, Rodri and Phil Foden also found the net. The stylish win ensured that City could have the luxury of dropping points in the remaining games and still win their sixth English title in 10 years.

Certainly City won’t carry the trophy until the injury time of the final game like in 2012 – a moment immortalized in a T-shirt worn by the 2022 team before kickoff on Sunday, to mark Sergio Aguero’s moment with “Agueru 93 :20” attribute. Score the title winning goal.

What hasn’t changed in 10 years – for all the Premier League titles won – is the pursuit of Champions League glory. But with City missing out on a second consecutive final after a loss at Real Madrid on Wednesday, Pep Guardiola’s side made a comfortable return to home duties.

City attacker Jack Grealish said: “We have made a full comeback.” “We have been together for the last few days as a team and as a unit which was needed and now we will try to finish the season strongly.”

In the years to come, it could be Newcastle challenging city to vie for respect not only in the Premier League but also in Europe.
