Stevie Nicks says she can’t imagine another Fleetwood Mac tour after the death of her friend and bandmate Christine McVie, speaking out. VULTURES: “You can’t replace him, you can’t.”
Nicks continued: “Without him, what would it be? You know what I mean? He’s like my soul mate, my musical soulmate, and my best friend who I spend more time with than any of my best friends outside of Fleetwood Mac. Christine is mine best friend.”

In an extremely poignant moment, the musician continues to frame his relationship with McVie (as he has in the past) in terms of Taylor Swift’s lyrics, specifically “You’re On Your Own, Kid ,” and the line, “you always. used to be.” Nicks said, “It was me and Christine. We were the only ones in the band. We always were. We protected each other. Who would I look to the right and they weren’t there behind that Hammond organ? When he died , I thought we couldn’t go on with this. There was no reason to.”
For Nicks, a Fleetwood Mac tour without McVie would have to drop her songs from the set list, which means no big hits (the band tried it on a tour without her in 2009 ). “He wrote all the super pop hits. None of us could have written the songs,” Nicks said. years. We can’t do those songs again. So we became more of a hard-rock band.”
In the midst of this heartfelt discussion about the gaping void left in Fleetwood Mac after McVie’s death last year, however, there was a few digs at Lindsey Buckingham. Before explaining how impossible it would be to tour without McVie, Nicks noted the last tour Fleetwood Mac did in 2019, a year after the band fired Buckingham: “We went out on the road and did a year and a half tour. with Neil Finn and Mike Campbell,” he said. “We’re having a really good time and it’s going to be a great tour. That’s in the realm of possibility.”
Nicks is in the midst of a solo tour of her own, with dates scheduled through December (most are headlining gigs, though she’ll also play a couple of stadium shows with Billy Joel ). Nicks also announced several shows in February and March of 2024.
