Strasburg opens for 1st time this year; falls to Marlins

MIAMI ( Associated Press) — Jazz Chisholm bunt singled off the first pitch of Stephen Strasburg, who returned after a year-long absence, in the Miami Marlins’ 7-4 win over the Washington Nationals on Thursday night. .

Chisholm stole second base and the Marlins put in some good offensive work to complete the sweep of the three-game series.

Strasburg, a 33-year-old right-hander who pitched on the 13th anniversary of his draft by the Nationals as the No. 1 overall pick in the amateur draft, gave up seven runs on eight hits.

He issued a pair of walks during his 4 2/3 innings stint.

Strasburg (0-1) struck out five (0-1) and hit a pitch. He threw 83 pitches, 63 of which were strikes, and his fastball averaged 91.9 mph.

The 2019 World Series MVP, a three-time All-Star, hadn’t pitched in a major league game since June 1 of last year. He spent much of the time recovering from surgery on July 28 to correct a problem with compression of nerves, arteries or veins near the neck or armpit.

He had made three rehab starts in the minors.

Trevor Rogers (3-5) gave up two runs on six hits in five innings.

Pot the Nationals, the Venezuelan Ehire Adrianza 5-0. The Dominicans Juan Soto 5-1 with two RBIs, Maikel Franco 4-1, Víctor Robles 3-1 with two runs scored. Cuban Yadiel Hernández 4-0.

For the Marlins, the Venezuelans Jesús Aguilar 4-1 with an RBI, Avisaíl García 2-1 with two runs scored, Miguel Rojas 3-0. The Dominicans Jesús Sánchez 4-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs, Bryan de la Cruz 4-0.
