The Story of Sam Kaplan, a Student Who Graduated at Age 72
At age 68, Sam, originally from Lawrenceville, decided to go back to school when, while riding in his car, he heard an ad for a college with a career “in screenwriting.”
“My car seemed to have developed automatic steering and I came to a stop on Collins Hill Road. Five minutes later, I was registering for the fall semester,” according to Sam’s testimony as reiterated on the Georgia Gwinnett College page .
Without studying for 50 years, Sam had to do it again, but now with five children and with students with whom he had to learn to live with everything in the classroom and the “barrier” of age.
“I feel like I have a good relationship with them. Many of them hugged me on the last day of school.”
