LONDON, 26 July (EFE). – Harry Styles, Sam Fender or rapper Little Sims are among twelve nominees to win the Mercury Music Award, which celebrates album of the year in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Ten from the final list are first-time aspirants for the award, which is considered the most prestigious in the country, according to organizers on the BBC Radio 6 network on Tuesday.

Styles, formerly of pop group One Direction, joined this exclusive club of British and Irish artists for the first time with the album “Harry’s House”, the most commercial of this version of Mercury.

Although Styles has continued to take steps to leave behind his “boyband” image, experts agree that his win at these awards is still too early, where singer-songwriter Fender, with the album “Seventeen Going Under”. , or Little Sims itself, along with “Sometimes I Can Be an Introvert”, are some favorites.

Also notable among first-timers are English singer-songwriter Self Esteem, folk artist Gwyno, whose work “Tracer” is sung primarily in the Cornish dialect, and alternative music duo Wet Leg, whose album of the same name is already doing well. Has been received at the last Glastonbury Festival.

Also on the list of candidates are new metal band Nova Twins—made up of girls only—and Scottish jazz pianist Fergus McCready, in another sample of the variety of genres Mercury is considering.

And while some make their debuts, others return, as is the case with guitarist Bernard Butler, as a member of Suede’s famed One Mercury Conqueror in 1993.

On this occasion, the musician selected the award for his collaboration with actress Jesse Buckley on the album “For All Our Days That Tear the Heart”.
