Taiwan’s defense ministry has spotted a record number of Chinese fighter jets around the island. Almost a third of them entered the air defense identification zone.

Various types of aircraft flew over the island nation. According to the Defense Ministry, such measures can only lead to a further escalation of tensions between Taiwan and the People’s Republic of China and destabilize security in the region.

Taiwan has detected 103 Chinese military aircraft near the island. 32 People’s Liberation Army fighter jets entered the southwestern air defense zone. At the same time, two long-range radar aircraft and two aerial refueling aircraft violated the southeastern air defense zone.
According to defense authorities, 40 of a total of 103 Chinese aircraft have been identified
- 12J-10;
- 10 each J-16 and Su-30;
- 4J-11;
- 2 each Y-20 and KJ-500.
The KJ-500 and Y-20 refueling aircraft passed through the air defense identification zone before continuing on to the Western Pacific. According to the Taiwan Defense Ministry, four J-11 fighter jets also crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait before returning to mainland China.
