Successful Powerlifters at the World Games in the United States

In July, the World Games, which only take place every four years, took place in Birmingham, USA. At the Powerlifting Würzburg World Games, Dr. Katherine Silberzahn, Valerie von Gleichen, Lisa Schlagbauer and coach and first president Daniel Harter are strongly represented. All four were part of the nine-strong German powerlifting team led by Würzburg resident Erfurt national coach Matthias Scholz.

Dr. Katherine Silberzan started with a weight of 68.3kg in the women’s heavy weight categories (-69kg and -76kg). She finished the German powerlifting team’s best sixth at the World Games. The powerlifting Würzburg athlete was looked after by coach Daniel Harter, supported by Lisa Schlagbauer. In the squat, she hit 242.5kg, a personal best of 2.5kg. On the bench she was successful with 145kg, which meant bronze. In the deadlift, Katherine Silberzhan was able to lift 200 kg with ease. This meant a total of 587.5 kg and was thus an excellent competition for the woman from Würzburg.

Valerie von Gleichen competed in the women’s superheavyweight category (-84 kg and +84 kg) and also finished 8th, coached by Daniel Harter. With a weight of 84.95 kg, she was able to score a whopping 262.5 kg in her major discipline, the squat. This meant a personal best of 10 kg and a German record in the +84 kg weight category. In the bench press, Valerie von Gleichen lost 132.5 kg and thus achieved another German record. She was successful in deadlift with 212.5 kg. Overall, this meant a total of 607.5 kg and a German record in the +84 kg weight category.

Lisa Schlagbauer started with a lightweight 62.5kg in the middleweight women’s weight categories (-57kg and -63kg) and finished in the top 10 with a strong 10th place. He was looked after by Daniel Harter, who was supervised by Dominic. Waitecum was supported. In the squat, she was able to score a legitimately strong 190kg and improve her personal best by 7.5kg. She was also able to lift a good 105 kg on the bench. In her favorite discipline, the deadlift, Schlagbauer was able to manage 195kg with ease. This powerlifting with a total of 490 kg was a successful event for the Würzburg athlete.

Athletes and coaches were satisfied with the performance shown. The next big competition will probably be the World Championships in Denmark in November or possibly the European Championships next year.
