The worst side of the Atlas appeared before the Clásico Tapatío and before facing Chivas, the Rojinegros fell 3-2 to Puebla in a duel corresponding to Matchday 10 of the Apertura 2023.
Thanks to an unforgettable first half, where the Pueblans scored 2 goals in the first 10 minutes, La Franja took a golden victory.
Against one of the worst teams of the semester, Atlas showed some weaknesses and snapped a good streak, while the Pueblans got back to winning ways.
With 2 consecutive victories, the Zorros appeared at home and in front of their people, but surprised Puebla, who had 10 pleasant minutes in which they scored their first 2 goals.
The scoring opened after 2 minutes when La Franja had a corner kick taken from the right side. The ball went to the center of the area where Diego de Buen appeared to deflect the stroke and sent it to save and thus make it 1-0 for the visit.
The Pueblans took advantage of the fact that the Zorros were still tired and made it 2-0 in the 9th minute by scoring a great goal. It all started at the feet of Brayan Angulo, who gave way to Daniel Álvarez, who returned in good will. The defender spotted Carlos Baltazar, and from outside the area he beat him to beat Camilo Vargas and add to the lead.
Atlas was slow to react and did so late in the game. In the 42′, Augusto Solari headed to the spot and the young goalkeeper, Jesús Iván Rodríguez, appeared to drown his cry for a goal with a blow.
Before the whistle the Foxes scored and Juan Manuel Zapata, after receiving from Jorge Vallarta, unleashed an impossible shot for Rodríguez and thus made it 2-1 in the 45′.
For the second half there were changes from Mora, who sent Eduardo Aguirre and Mateo García to the field, and this meant that Atlas had the ball, and in an option, Vallarta on the left side put a big cross for Jordy Caicedo, who didn’t forgive him and with a proper header made it 2-2 in 60′.
It was the fourth goal for the Ecuadorian, who experienced his best moment in Liga MX.
The locals managed to get on the scoreboard in the 69th minute, when Zapata struck him from distance and Rodríguez saved to extinguish the danger.
Puebla won with a penalty
In the 71′, a foul was called in favor of Puebla very close to the area, but in the end La Franja was awarded a penalty, by VAR.
The recovery was made by Guillermo Martínez, who in the 74th minute made it 3-2 in favor of Puebla, who won the golden victory.
