Meerut: The couple, who are married around a fireplace, are running away from the Uttar Pradesh Police these days. The incident took place in the Kanker Khera area of Meerut district.
The groom has been booked by the city police under the new religious conversion law that came into force in Uttar Pradesh. The police has also arrested the mother of the bride.
According to the report, a case was registered against the groom and his mother-in-law on Sunday. The Muslim man works as an autodriver, who married a Hindu girl recently.
The matter came to light after the wedding video went viral. The couple are running away after the wedding, as the police are trying to locate them. With this, the families of both the bride and groom have fled.
The Meerut police has raided several places in search of the couple. The priest used the Angithi as a Havanakund for the marriage and the couple were surrounded by it.
Police also arrested priest Rahul Sharma for questioning. Some Hindu organizations created a ruckus at the local police station demanding action against the man.
SHO of Kankarkheda police station Tapeshwar Sagar said that priest Rahul Sharma got married, but his name was not included in the complaint.
Police said the girl’s mother and her minor son are absconding after marriage. Police said they are searching for the girl and the groom.
Local Bajrang Dal leaders have lodged a separate complaint in this regard. They alleged that the accused seduced the minor girl and married her. However, the police said that the allegations of the girl being a minor have not been found true.
