Rising energy prices and gas shortages – the federal government calls on the federal government to save electricity before winter. The Swiss population is saving, but still unconvinced.
in short needed
- Switzerland is heading towards an energy crisis due to gas shortage.
- The federal government is calling for cost-cutting measures in the budget.
- However, there is still no concern among the public.
The gas crisis in the wake of the Ukraine war won’t leave Switzerland unaffected either: Energy prices are rising and the federal government is already warning of severe winter shortages.
So in the newly launched campaign, the federal government is calling for energy savings. Energy Minister Simonetta Somaruga even in the blink of an eye calls two people to take a bath, and not alone.
Are you worried about the gas supply in view of the coming winter?
But how is the mood in Switzerland – are people really afraid of the cold? Nau.ch interviews people at the Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich. “No, I’m not afraid,” Catherine told Nau.ch. “I think it will affect us the least.”
Don’t be afraid of winter – we’re still saving
Jessica is a lot more cautious: “If we didn’t have any more electricity, it wouldn’t be so much fun anymore. Especially with our temperatures.”
Nevertheless, the call to save energy is taken seriously. “I save energy by using energy-saving lamps everywhere,” reveals Eddie. “When I cook, I mainly use a pressure cooker. I also take short showers, so I’m already working on some.”
“I stopped showering a long time ago,” says Katherine. “I also turn off the lights and stuff. I don’t use that glass that often anymore.”
