Survivor expected to testify in second week of Rittenhouse trial

KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) — A man who sustained a serious arm injury after being shot by Kyle Rittenhouse during a night of protests against racial injustice this week as prosecutors in the young man’s murder trial his case. He is expected to testify at the end of .

27-year-old Gage Grosskretz, who had a gun in his hand, was shot moments after Rittenhouse fatally shot two others as he stepped toward Rittenhouse. On the streets of Kenosha, Wisconsin. The one-time police youth cadet from Antioch, Illinois was 17 years old when he went to Kenosha with an AR-style rifle and a medical kit in what he said was an attempt to protect property From the demonstrations surrounding the shooting of Jacob Blake, A black man, by a white Kenosha police officer.

Rittenhouse is white, as is the case with the three men he shot, but the case has raised polarizing questions about racial justice, policing, firearms and white privilege..

In the week before Rittenhouse’s trial, prosecutors played several videos Which showed the events of that night from different angles. Jury members heard testimony from those who accompanied Rittenhouse, as well as from police officers and loved ones of those killed.

Jason Lakowski, a former Marine walking the streets of Kenosha with his rifle, testified Friday about Rosenbaum, the first man to shoot Rittenhouse. Lakowski said Rosenbaum was acting “combatant”. But there was no serious danger.

Lakowski said he considered Rosenbaum a “rave idiot” and turned his back and ignored him. He admitted that he didn’t see everything that happened between Rittenhouse and Rosenbaum, including their final conflict.

Other witnesses testified last week that an “over-aggressive” Rosenbaum threatened to kill Rittenhouse that night and that Rosenbaum was shot after chasing Rittenhouse and lunging for the young man’s rifle..

Prosecutors portray Rittenhouse as the instigator of the bloodshed, as well as an inexperienced teen who misrepresented his age and medical training to others that night.. Rittenhouse’s lawyer has argued that he acted in self-defense, suggesting among other things that Rittenhouse feared his weapon would be taken and used against him.

Two jurors were also sacked last week. A man dismissed for possible bias after telling a joke about the Blake shooting A court security officer, and a pregnant woman, were fired after they said she was having some trouble. Eighteen jurors remain, and eventually 12 will be chosen for deliberation.
