Suspected Shadow Hills robber captured after hunting

The intense, multi-day hunt for a suspected serial robber in the San Fernando Valley ended with an arrest late Wednesday night, authorities said.

LAPD officer Lizet Lomeli said K-9 police captured a man, identified as 25-year-old Benjamin Renteria, in a thicket near the Hansen Dam at around 10:40 pm.

Aerial footage of the scene, obtained from CBS-TV 2, showed a group of officers and dogs swarming around Shadow Hills Avenue and Wentworth Street until late at night. Renteria was later taken to an ambulance where he was reportedly being treated for a dog bite.

Lomeli said he was prosecuted on suspicion of burglary and is being held on $ 240,000 bail.

Authorities have been looking for a man – presumably on foot and armed – since the beginning of the week. On Tuesday, a SWAT team approached a hill in Sunland, but arrived with nothing.

Police said Renteria may be responsible for nine commercial and residential burglaries in October and November.

Security videos in the area showed a man armed with various types of firearms, including pistols, bolt action rifles and an AR-15 rifle.

Neighboring residents of Sunland and Shadow Hills have been warned to lock their doors and stay alert.
